Old Cents powered into a top three league position after overcoming a 10 point deficit in the first ten minutes of an entertaining match against a strong Hornets side. The Hornets were themselves pushing for a top three place and they came looking to play and this led to a high quality match as both sides moved the ball from anywhere on the pitch.
Old Cents were determined that they were going to put in a strong performance as they wanted to put right the 50 point drubbing they received at the hands of the Hornets at the beginning of the season. However it was the Hornets who started the stronger as they built up 0-10 lead inside the first 10 minutes after scoring two well worked tries that showed they intended to play a varied game.Their first try showed their forward strength and the second showed their ability to run the ball through their backs.
However once the Cents had over come the powerful start of their visitors they went on to take the game to the Hornets and were soon causing them all sorts of problems with their own open style of rugby.By half time Cents themselves had built up a 22-10 lead after scoring three well worked tries of their own through AlexMathers,Matt Smith(on his club debut) and Sam Goatley.LIam Hemming completed the Cents first half scoring by converting two of the tries plus a penalty.
Although Cents were on top at the half way stage they still needed to be aware of the Hornets attacking skill as they had the ability to score from any where and this the away side showed not long after half time.Hornets got back into the match when they scored a well worked converted try of their own to bring the score to 22-17 and it showed that Cents still had a match to win.
However this was closest the Hornets got to Cents as in the final Half hour Cents blew away their visitors with some well worked tries of their own which were good team tries as the home side attacked from everywhere on the field.Cents scored tries through Ryan Townsend,Keiran Blackmore and veteran Rich Pinkney and Liam Hemming again converted two of the tries plus a penalty to complete the home sides scoring.
All in all this was a most satisfying win for the home side as they got back some honour after the drubbing they took at the Hornets at the beginning of the season and also it was great to move up to third in the table after run of six league victories on the trot.
