Cents were made to work hard for their latest victory at the weekend when they overcame a young and talented RWB side.Considering the damp and windy conditions this was an excellent match to watch as both sides played a fast tempo game with hardly any mistakes made. Both sides ran the ball well and the defence from both sides was top drawer especially from Cents who had to be at their best to keep RWB down to one try.The difference between the two sides was the finishing and Cents took their four tries well with Cents experience also showing as well.I expect RWB must be wondering how they did not get anything from the match especially from the way they played.
RWB also did not recover from a slow start whereby they were 12-0 down within the first 10 mins as Cents scored two well taken tries through Niall Gibbons and George Bvuma with Ollie Locke converting one of the tries. These were the only scores of the first half although it was not from the want of trying by both teams. Both sides took the game to each other but both defences held firm and the half flew by as there was so much action to see.
The second half carried on much the same as the first with both sides running the ball from everywhere at a fast tempo and RWB were the first score in the second half when they converted a penalty but almost straight away Cents replied with a converted try scored and converted Alex(C)Cox.Score 19-3 to Cents and not long afterwards the home side were in trouble when they were reduced to 13 players with RWB knocking on their try line. However determined defence kept RWB at bay and Cents weathered the storm with this perhaps the home side won the match.
As soon as Cents were back up to full strength RWB scored a well taken try started in their half but the try went unconverted and the score going into the final stages was 19-8 to the home side.Cents scored their final try in the last minute of the game and this earned them a bonus point with the try being scored by Ollie Locke with the conversion by Alex (C).Final score 26-8 to Cents.
For Cents this was a welcome victory as they are starting to put thier best match squad together after a dreadful month plus of players not being available.Cents had Rob Jones, Alex (C) Cox, Joe Preece, Shay Morgan,Dave Knight, John Huxtable and Scott Fritchley back this week although they were missing Dan Knapman,Craig Ballinger,Dan Hayes,Ryan Townsend and Lewis May unavailable for selection.
The seconds were also able at long last to have a game with sufficient Squad members back for them to pick a side.
As for the match, as stated before this was a high quality game played in terrible conditions and both sides were a credit to their clubs.
