Old Cents had one of their toughest games of the season Saturday against a very strong Burnham side who have only lost once at Home this season.
Although missing a few regular first XV players Cents still went to Burnham with a very strong team and had to be at their best to get a valuable win.
Burnham, who looked well coached and organised took the lead on the 10 minute mark against the run of play with an interception try under the posts, but missed the easy conversion.
Then 10 minuets later their strong running centre scored his second try after some good open play rugby from the home team, again an easy conversion was missed.
Cents clawed back a try in the corner just before half time by winger Rob Jones and Liam Hemming kicked the conversion from out wide, score 10-7.
The second half began the same with both teams playing good running rugby and some excellent defence also from both sides, Burnham again scored out wide through their pacey winger to make the score 15- 7 to Burnham.
Cents then had a good spell with the ball and tried to wear the Burnham team down but their defence held solid, but after several phases Fly Half Rich Pinkney made a break and just got caught inches from the line with a try saving tackle but hard working Flanker John Huxtable was in support and picked up and dived over and with Hemming converting it brought the score to 15-14 with 20 mins left to play.
Cents had to keep hold of the ball against a dangerous Burnham side and managed to get an easy penalty in front of the post which Hemming converted to take the lead 17 -15.
Burnham came back well and made a break up the middle but a try saving tackle from Joe Preece which lead to a Cents penalty for holding on Cents cleared there line.
Then with one minute remaining Cents had a few attacking runs at the Burnham defence and eventually broke through out wide again with Rob Jones forcing his way past a couple of tired tackles to clench the winner, the conversion was missed and the final score ended 22- 15 to Cents.
Cents Captain Pete Willetts said "I think this was our hardest game of the season and credit to Burnham on Sea they played really well and perhaps deserved a draw on the balance of the game, it took alot out of our players today but they fought really hard to come back to get the
