Cents started the new season with an win away at Salisbury which is a difficult place to come away from with anything.Salisbury do not loose many games at home and in the away fixture last season Cents were well beaten 17-40,so this was a good win for the new look Cents.
Cents fielded five new faces in their match day squad and a further two players have changed positions this season. The new faces were Rob Winchle at centre,Rob Jones(returning) on the wing,Curtis Neal at fly half,Tom Smith at second row plus Bradley Stevens as replacement hooker.Scott Fritchley and Ryan Townsend have switched position to both play in the back row.
In an even first half Cents led 9-10 at the break thanks to a late try by Rob Winchle which was converted by Curtls Neal who had also earlier converted a penalty for the away sides other poins. After the break Cents hit a purple patch and in a twenty minute spell they ran in three converted tries through Scott Fritchley,Rob Jones and Ben Preece. The three tries were converted by Curtis Neal and having secured a try scoring Bonus point Cents were looking to kick on and add to their score.
However Salisbury had other ideas and staged a come back which had Cents hanging on to the end of the match. The home side scored three tries of their own,two of which were converted and they got a deserved losing point for their efforts in what was an evenly fought match.Fianal score 28-31 to Cents who got their season off to a winning start in an entertaining match played in the right spirit byboth sides.
Cents next match will be at home to Stratford Upon Avon next Saturday and also the seconds will be starting their season away at Dings.
