Cents entertained Wootton Bassett at the weekend in the opening fixture of the new season and as with other fixtures between our two clubs, the home side knew they would be in for a tight match.
The match proved to be a hard fought encounter with lots of attacking rugby played in the right spirit by both sides and Basset showed they will be a Force to be reckoned with in the league this season.Cents played well but were undone by too many unforced errors which allowed Bassett to secure a well earned victory.
Not many sides come to the Stade de Bridge and score 39 points against the home side,Bassett did by taking the chances that came their way.Bassett not only took their chances well but backed it up with a solid defence that kept Cents at bay when the home side pressed on their line for long periods as they tried to get back into the match.
Cents played their part in a good game to watch as play went from end to end being played at a fast tempo.Cents were competitive in all areas of play, however they left themselves a lot to do by making too many errors which allowed Bassett to control the match. The good thing to come out of the match was that Cents never gave up and they tried very hard to get something out the match.
Cents were rewarded for their efforts when they achieved a try scoring bonus point for scoring four well taken tries through Dan Tyler,Mike Mathers and two from Alex Cox.Harry Preece converted two of the tries to complete the Cents coring.
Cents now move onto their next match on Saturday away to Salisbury, another tricky tie for them. However Cents should have more players to choose from as key players were missing from the Bassett match
