Cents fine run of form continued when they overwhelmed potential tricky opponents Marlborough playing at Hartpury on Saturday. On the three previous occasions Cents have played Marlborough the games have been close and have been decided in the closing stages,so a close game was anticipated.
However, Saturday was not the case as a fine all round team performance saw Cents power to victory and helped maintain the clubs push for the automatic promotion place along with Bassett who themselves beat Buckingham at home.
Cents were quick out the blocks and were two tries up within the first 20 minutes when Mike Mathers scored both tries from close range through good work by the home sides forwards,Harry Preece converted one of the scores. On 24 minutes Jack Rowe increased Cents lead with a try and on 32 minutes Nathan Stroud also scored and once again both tries were the result of good strong forward play close to Marlboroughs try line.Harry Preece converted one of the scores for a half time score of 24-7 to the home side and the lead was well deserved with the all important try scoring bonus point in the bag.
Where in the first half Cents forwards were to the fore in the second half Cents backs took centre stage and ran their visitors all over the place.Tries from Max Whelan,Ross Hannaford(2),Luke Dilley plus Wayne Mulhern put Cents out of sight and with Harry Preece converting three of the tries Cents led 55-7.At this stage Cents backs/forwards were unstoppable and they went on to score another three tries in the closing stages of the match.Ross Hannaford scored his third after good breaks by Rob Jones and Rob Winchle,TIm Wilcox scored a fine sole try when he went through the entire Marlborough defence from the restart following Ross Hannafords try and Sol Farrer scored the last when he jinked over from close range.Harry Preece converted the last three tries for a final score line of 76-12 with Cents man of the match being Mike Mathers although this was another fine team performance from the home side.
Cents first team have a rest week next week and the following week they are away at Windsor another team not to be taken lightly at home. Also Cents should have the likes of Liam Hemming,Luke Jones,Ross Barnes plus Lewis Locke available for selection although at the moment they will find it hard to get in the side with the way it is playing at the moment
