Old Cents went away to Reading Rugby Club and were unlucky to come away with a bonus point.
Cents would like to thank Reading RFC for the excellent hospitality they showed our supportors and players.
It was the first time these two teams have meet and on a nice warm day and on good size pitch Cents must have fancied an upset, but it wasn't to be.
Cents started the game nervously making small errors and not being able to make more than two phases.
Reading took the lead early on with a simple penalty in front of the post after 10 mins then added another a few minutes later and made it 6-0.
The bigger Reading forwards then started getting the upper hand slightly and were pressing Cents line but Cents solid defence held them out.
Reading then scored their first try from a Cents scrum when the ball bounced back to the Reading side and it spilled out and went through the oppositions back line for their winger to finnish of,score now 11-0.
Cents then got fired up and started to challenge Reading's line but Reading's strong defence held up Dale West when he crashed over.
Dave Knight then ran through their defence and lost the ball over the line to deny Cents 5 valuable points.
Cents then made two changes with Sam Preece coming on at Prop and Rob Jones at fullback, both players seem to give Cents more confidence and straight away Rob Jones scored in the corner from some good play from Cents but the referee called it held up, although from the replay it was grounded.
Cents continued to put some pressure on Reading but they were never going to be easy to score against, then just on the half time mark Cents got a penalty to narrow the gap to 13-3.
Half time kicked off with Cents bringing on Rob Pinkney for Ben Slatter using the new law changes of 8 switches.
The game at this time was evenly matched with both teams making silly errors probably from being the first game of the season.
10 mins gone and Cents then lost Centre Ryan Townsend to injury and was replaced by Prop Mike Mathers.
Reading then scored there second try from good interplay which was converted, score 18-3 to Reading.
Cents then had their best spell of the game and hit back with a try from Dave Knight who beat his opposite number to score under the post which was converted by Liam Hemming.
Then stright from the kickoff Cents pulled of a lovley move from the training park which put Liam Hemming over also under the post and he also converted, score was now 18-17, a great come bak from Cents who showed alot of charactor to pull back from a big lead.
With just under 10 mis to go Reading then scored again out wide and kicked a touch line conversion to make it 25-17.
Cents then pulled back with penalty 25-20 with a tense last few minutes, but then Cents gave away another penalty to seal their fate, Reading converted and the score finnished 28-10 dening Cents a well deserved bonus point.
Coach Jack Preece said "Reading were a good outfit today and defended really well but our players were disapointed because of the amount of errors we made, we crossed there line 5 times but only 2 were finnished off, if we would of cut our mistakes in half today we would of won.
We now know what were up against at this level and i'm sure we can compete, Reading are looking for promotion and looked a strong team and I think we can learn from the loss and look froward to a home game next week against Salisbury who again are a very good team."
Mn of the Match went to Rich Pinkney.
