Cents win important basement battle.

Old Cents continued their good run of form with a well earned victory over a powerful and useful Avonmouth side.Cents have only lost one of their last four matches and on Saturday had to be at their best to overcome an Avonmouth side who had beaten them convincingly earlier in the season.
As the scoreline suggests this was a closely fought match with both sides giving their all.Boths sides defended as though their lives depended on it and scoring chances were at a premium.
Avonmouth led 0-7 at the break and scored a well worked try to open up the Cents defence and try as they might the home side could not break down the away sides strong defence.
The closeness of the first half, with both sides defences on top, suggested the second half would be more or less the same as the first and so it was.Cents managed to break down the Avonmouth defence once and it was a well worked try that brought them back into the match. The try was scored by winger Oliver Townsend and was converted well from the touchline by Liam Hemming.Score 7-7 with everything to play for and Cents took the lead when Liam converted a long range penalty going into the final quarter. The lead was short lived because Avonmouth almost immediately scored a converted penalty from in front of the home sides posts after a sustained period of pressure on the Cents goal line.Score 10-10.
Cents regained the lead going into the last ten minutes when Liam Hemming converted another long range penalty, score 13-10 to Cents and the home side had to defend well to keep Avonmouth out in the closing stages. Not only did the home side defend well they had to be disciplined in order not to give any last minute penalties away.Avonmouth were encamped on the home sides line and at the final whistle both sides were exhausted after the effort put in to try and win the match.
The match had been a hard fought affair with not much between the sides and Cents won it because they took what scoring chances came their way. Both sides defences were superb and created a competitive match.

With Old Pats winning with a bonus point took the edge of the victory as they stayed safe for the time being, but there is still a long way to go before the season ends.Cents next match is at Newton Abbott where their recent home form is impressive and they will have to play well to get something from this match
