Cents seconds finally played their league debut match in the national league structure when they beat a plucky Cirencester First team at home Saturday. Cents were supposed to have played their first league match last week but it was cancelled when Chosen Hill could not raise a side.
Despite the score line Cirencester were still well in the match until the last quarter when Old Cents finally made their power tell .Cents had more than their share of play and it took some good defensive play to keep Cirencester well in the match.Cents also made numerous handling mistakes in the damp conditions and Cirencester were also quite willing to take the game to the home side to keep them on their guard.
Cirencester were the first to score with a converted penalty early in the match and by 20 mins into game Cents tool the lead through a converted try by Isiah Khisa, converted by Lewis May. Cirencester converted another penalty not long after the Cents score and this gave a score line of 7-6 to the home side. This was the score at half time and reflected the closeness of the match in the wet conditions.
Cents then scored another try mid way through the second half through Kieran Blackmore and this was unconverted for a score line of 12-6 to Cents. Cirencester were still in the match and giving their all to get back into the match. However in the last five minutes Cents scored two unconverted tries to secure a hard earned victory against a side who battled to the end.Cents try scorers were George Preece and Ben Hannis with a final score line of 22-6 to the home side.
Cents were pleased with the bonus point win but know they will have to play better next week when they play Drybrook seconds away.
