A magnificent effort by all of the Coopers players was rewarded with a win at Ipswich Y.M. by 27 -20.

Coopers gave away three penalties in the first few minutes as a much heavier Ipswich pack forced Coopers to defend resulting in Ipswich taking a 3 point lead. On eight minutes Coopers won a turnover ball and fly half Keith Wardley found a gap to beak through the Ipswich defence to score Coopers first try. Coopers were forced to make a change on fifteen minutes when prop Fatjon Qela suffered a blow to his calf and Ray Flowers came on as hooker with captain John Woodhall going to prop. Ipswich were awarded a second penalty in Coopers 22 when a Coopers player was penalised for not rolling away following a tackle. On thirty minutes a high clearance kick by Ipswich was caught by Coopers full back Barnie Moul who then set off on a amazing run through the Ipswich forwards and backs before slipping a pass to outside centre Matt Carter to score under the post with inside centre Joe Bilton adding the conversion. Ipswich forwards forced Coopers back into their 22 and following a number of scrum breakdowns scrum half Scott Sarson was yellow carded. Ipswich elected to go again with a set scrum and forced Coopers back over the goal line and scored their first try that was converted to end the first half with a i point lead to Ipswich.

Score at half time Ipswich Y.M. 13 pts, Old Cooperians 12pts.

Coopers brought on second row Bobby Bird for George Wilkins and a Coopers line out on Ipswich 22 was well won and a forwards drive saw Coopers go over the goal line but could not ground the ball. However a minute later Joe Bilton was fed a short pass evaded the Ipswich defence to score under the post and then converted the kick to give Coopers a 6 point lead. Coopers had to replace full back Moul on fifty five minutes with Sarson going to full back and Michael Dennis coming on as scrum half. A high tackle by Ipswich was punished as Bilton slotted the ball between the posts. Ipswich forwards pressure began to tell andon sixty minutes again forced Coopers back for them to score their second try, that was converted to bring them back within 3 points of Coopers. Moul and Qela were brought back on to relieve prop Josh Wardley with a dead leg and flanker Patrick Reed. Ipswich were continually attacking but the Coopers defence was superb and held them up at all times. A fly kick by Sarson was well caught by right wing Kolade Awlbowale who out stripped his wing man and with the full back approaching slipped the ball inside to Moul to score Coopers fourth try, the conversion kick by Bilton hit the post and rebounded into the field of play thus giving Coopers a 7 point lead to defend for the last ten minutes of the game, and this they did.

Final score Ipswich Y.M. 20 points, Old Cooperians 27 points.

No player could be singled out for man of the match as each and every one of the nineteen players who participated for Old Cooperians were heroes. Well done.
