Gavin Lach’s revamped squad take on the National Two South side in 4 x 30 minute matches and OEs DoR admits he is looking forward to seeing how his squad, strengthened by a number of new arrivals during the close season, perform in their first competitive outing of the summer.

“Pre-season has gone really well so far,” he said, “and I would say we are 15 to 20 per cent ahead of where we were this time last season in terms of conditioning, preparation etc.

“But you can’t beat competitive action to see how far you have progressed and pinpoint the areas you need to improve. We know Bury well and we know they are a good side. Last year’s games at their place were hugely beneficial in terms of overall preparation for the start of the season and it will be a great chance to try out some new combinations and see some of the new faces in a match situation.

“We are going to put out three totally mixed sides to begin with and then a stronger side in the final 30-minute game. But as I’ve made clear to the players from the first day of pre-season, the slate is swept clean - every place is up for grabs before the first league game at Canterbury on September 7th.”
