OEs face Old Hamptonians this Saturday in the Papa Johns Community Cup quarter-finals, looking to move one step closer to a trip to Twickenham.

However, Director of Rugby Gavin Lach has warned his squad will need to improve considerably on last Saturday’s Round of 16 performance at Old Georgians if they are to progress any further in the competition.

Although OEs secured five tries in a 36-13 victory over tough opposition, they were far from convincing at times and Lach admitted: “After a bright start, we looked and played like a side which had only one training session in the last two weeks after the title celebrations. We were ill-disciplined and turned over far too much possession.

“Cup rugby is very different from league rugby and we’re stepping into the unknown against good sides that we’ve never played before. So this week has been about knuckling down in training and focusing on the job in hand on Saturday because Old Hamptonians are clearly a strong, well drilled side. We need to be up for the challenge.”

Elthamians were originally drawn as the away team in Saturday’s quarter-final, but the RFU have switched the tie and with the Queen Mary Ground unavailable, the match will now be played at Beckenham RFC, Balmoral Avenue BR3 3RD. Kick-off 3pm.

Like OEs, Hamptonians have enjoyed a season to remember and lifted the Surrey Four title with 15 wins from their 18 league matches. Last Saturday, they beat Old Verulamians 59-17 to secure their place in the cup quarter-finals.

OEs have made four changes to the side that beat Georgians. After making his first team debut as a replacement last Saturday, Ben Adamson starts for the first time in the second row, taking the number of graduates from the club’s outstanding mini and junior section in the starting line-up to 12.

Elsewhere, Luke Cooper returns in the back row alongside Frankie Nella who switches to No.8 to accommodate Adamson, while Reis Norman moves into the centres.
