Charlie Edwards, Tom Scorgie (pictured) and Rob White were all involved in Kent’s impressive 29-8 victory over group leaders Devon at Medway RFC which booked their place at Rugby HQ.

OEs centre Ben Hough, who missed the Devon clash but featured in the previous game against Somerset, could also make the final squad for Twickenham.

Kent faced a tall order going into the game, needing to secure a four-try win bonus point as well as denying Devon any reward, to win their group.

However, their total dominance of the set scrum laid the foundations for this impressive victory as they scored three of the four tries needed for the bonus point by the interval.

A penalty try for a scrum infringement gave Kent the lead. Edwards added a second after a quick tap from skipper Tom Stradwick and when full-back Aiden Moss crossed the line for a third score, Kent turned round at the interval 19-3 ahead.

Within seven minutes of the restart, Kent had secured the all-important fourth try and the bonus point when Moss broke away for his second try of the afternoon.

Devon fought back with a try from winger Tom Goodman and started to mount heavy pressure on the home line, in search of the two scores they needed to get within seven points of Kent and the all-important losing bonus point.

However, helped by a couple of crucial turnovers from Rob White, the Kent defence held firm and a late Freddie Gabbitass penalty, adding to the fly-half’s three successful conversions, clinched a deserved victory.

Kent will now meet East Midlands, who beat Durham 28-19 on Saturday to top division Two North, in the Plate final. The match is a 10am kick-off at Twickenham on Sunday and precedes the England v Wales international.
