Impressive start to the season to beat local rivals

The U14s kicked off their season with a great performance to win 43-24 against Beckenham. Despite giving away size, the OEs forward pack dominated the breakdown and were quickly 19-0 up. Adam saw wide open spaces down the blind to run in from 30 yards after strong approach work by forwards and backs. Another sweeping series of phases saw Roma go in taking an inside pass from the wing. Tom added the conversion. Tom then scored the first of his 3 tries, proving speed of thought is just as effective as speed of foot. Picking the ball up from the base of the ruck he crashed through the middle to score from short range and added the conversion. His second came from reading the play as the opposition tried to play from their own line, spotting the obvious pass to their big centre, he poached an interception to score under the posts and the conversion duly followed. The oppo scored a well worked try to leave the game 26-7 at half time. Beckenham scored three long range opportunistic tries without reply and suddenly it was 26-24. The boys raised their game in the final quarter. Tom taking a quick tap to go in from 5 yards as the opposition questioned the referees decision to complete his hat trick and he added the conversion . Darren scored a lovely wingers try, rounding a couple of defenders before crossing the line. Roma finished things off going in from 30 yards after taking a long pass from Tom and holding off 3 would be tacklers and the corner flag to score.

Well done boys on a very impressive start to the season and good to see the whole squad getting game time and playing their part.
