History

An acceptable Club History page (including school & Old Boys'Association links) demands more time, research & care than we have presently, but to jog a few memories for now we will put together a brief timeline of some of the clubs milestones, achievements & notable events from the last 83 years.

Oldershaw Rugby Club was formed in 1924 and will be celebrating its 83rd season this year. Originally it was formed as an 'Old Boys' Rugby Club by a group of like minded individuals from Oldershaw Grammar School , Wirral. One of the founder members Mr R. Plowright still managed to come down and watch games on a Saturday up until his recent passing !

Oldershaw moved to their existing home, Belvidere Field, in the early 50's playing other local 'Old Boys' teams such as, Old Birkonians, St Mary's Old Boys, Old Instonians, Old Rockferrians . In 1973 the 'Old Boys' title was dropped and Oldershaw became an open club allowing members to join who did not attend the Grammar school. A new clubhouse was opened in 1968 following the destruction of the old one by a fire.

In the late 1980's and early 90's when the league system was introduced to junior rugby, Oldershaw moved from strength to strength and gained regular promotion, until reaching the present position in North West One in 199?. With the advent of profesionalism Oldershaw have maintained an amatuer status, with no one being paid and players still paying their match subs. This means therefore it is hard to attract new players as many will only move for money now. The only reason Oldershaw are remaining were there are now is down to good coaching and an regular supply of junior and youth players from their excellent junior section .
