Oldershaw Rugby Club celebrates 10 years of women's rugby today, on the anniversary of the first training session.
10 years ago the Diamonds held their first Touch rugby training session. 4 women attended with Mark Roberts (Monkey) running the coaching session. Along with Brad Robertson and support from Steve Fogg, the team continued to grow each week. They played their first match on 22nd July at New Brighton Rugby Club.
The team has gone from strength to strength, with over 30 women in the squad, ranging from age 15 to 60. There have been several successes on the pitch with Wirral touch league wins, and off the pitch, promoting the values of rugby to a wide audience. Not only are they an incredible bunch of players they are, more importantly, a rugby family, and an inspiration to anyone who wants to get involved in the game.
The Diamonds side has helped Oldershaw grow stronger, not only within the community, but as a club itself. Due to the success of the diamonds, Oldershaw was able to launch a Womens contact side, who competed in league rugby for the first time this season.
Thank you to all the coaches and spectators who have supported the team over the past 10 years. We couldn't have done this with out you all.
