The game was well spectated and respected in the sad news of Tony Adams passing. However, after a hard-fought contest, Oldfield yet again ground out the win.
The game started fiercely with big tackles, aggressive rucking and hard running. Oldfield struck the first blow via a free kick that was taken q
quickly. After fast hands in the forwards, Ollie Hayes went over for the opening try, converted by Ali Lane.
Oldfield quickly found their feet through some strong phases and solid pattern work. Conrad Braithwaite touched down after diving from the 5-meter line, mid-air touching the ball down before he had been taken out. Unbelievable skill! Sadly, Ali missed the kick 0-12 Oldfield.
Half time struck, Oldfield were now playing uphill with the disadvantage, Stothert & Pitt came down the hill fast and furious scoring 2 tries to make the score 12-12.
Oldfield’s front row of Rickie Gibson, Rhys Redman & Dave McHugh were to much for Stotherts, pushing them back allowing Harry Godwin to pick up at the base of the scrum from 15 meters out and powering his way over to score again. Ali converted to make the game a nail biting 12-19 Oldfield.
Strong defence from Harry Smith, Tom Nohre and Charlie Noad kept Oldfield in the game however, Stotherts managed to score wide to make the final score 17-19.
An ugly win for Oldfield on the road but that makes 4 from 4.
