Osmond Returns With A Hat Trick

Osmond Returns With A Hat Trick

Playing down the tough Yatton slope in the first half Oldfield settled into the game very quickly…

…setting out their stall with quick ball being released by the forwards giving their talented backs the much needed ball they have been craving for the last couple of weeks, Oldfield were rewarded by the fit again, Tom Osmond; running a lovely line off a Lucas Pichot pass to go over on the 6th minute.

0 – 7 Ross Jacob with the extras from distance.

With their tails up after a bright start and an air of confidence around the Oldfield boys, they seemed to gel together from the off with the forwards doing the business up front giving the backs time on the ball, with the Rob Brunt and Jacob settling down well it allowed Lucas Pichot to create a fantastic bit of space to work an opening to see him dap down with men aboard on 14 minutes.

0 - 14 Ross Jacob with the dropped goal extras.

Even at scrum time the Oldfield eight had their tails up given that little nudge on their ball and the opposition, which paid dividends as this unsettled Yatton and on 22 minutes from nowhere, Pierce Dodd popped up with the ball sprinting over from the halfway line (Not so much of sprint by the 22 perhaps).

0 – 21 Ross Jacob with another top extra kick.

Yatton had a large squad to choose from and as they shuffled things around a bit it caught Oldfield napping as their big forwards worked some good tight ball allowing them to score on 32 minutes.

5 – 21 Conversion Missed.

With half time approaching and such a tough slope to play up in the second half one more score would have been ideal but, with a string of silly penalties, finding another score was a tough ask.

Half Time 5 - 21

There was a good feeling in the Oldfield half time huddle, as players who have started to build a bit of understanding of each other over the last few tough weeks, talked through the game.

Now playing up the slope Oldfield set about the job in hand and kept doing the basics well, with Adam Watts finding Joe Jacobs well in the lineouts, which allowed Ross Jacob to carry on finding a good rhythm with Rob Brunt who between them, kept the opposition on the back foot. With 59 minutes gone a clearance kick was picked up by full back Tom Osmond who then started on a mazing run showing some of his pre injury speed, cutting through the defence like a hot knife through butter, going pretty much plum under the posts.

5 – 28 Dropped kicked again by Ross Jacob for the 2.

Yatton weren't going down without a fight, as they seemed to up their game for the next 10 minutes dominating exchanges, which allowed them a well deserved, try on 67 minutes.

10 - 28

The slip in concentration did not last to long for this quick learning group of lads, as Ross Jacobs put a lovely box kick onto the Yatton winger which his attempted clearance was fantastically charged down by the ever improving Steve Taylor, who then was able to pop off to the talented Lucas Pichot who dropped down for the 5 points.

10 - 33

One of the many highlights of the afternoon was the pairing of Jack Minuer and Hayden Cook who made big holes in the Yatton defence all afternoon and were rewarded on 76 minutes when Hayden bulldozed over under the posts, exciting to see the Oldfield boys develop over the coming weeks.

10 – 40 another top 2 point kick from Ross Jacob.

The best was saved until the last as Tom Osmond who looked dangerous every time he got the ball went on another strong a mazing run shrugging off all comers to finish off the afternoon with his hat trick

10 – 47 with golden boots Ross Jacob adding the 2 points.
