Saturday 29th September 2018 - Old Glynonians are sitting top of Keltbray Surrey 3 after a rousing 32-12 victory at Guildfordians on Saturday.

The visitors, behind 7-3 at half time, took the battle to the Guildfordian’s pack before freeing up the backs with 20 minutes to play to run in a flurry of tries and claim a bonus point win.

The first half consisted of strong and disruptive Guildfordians attack through the centre of the pitch and the OGs were made to pay with a 20th minute score putting the hosts on top.

Glyn remained determined and dominated the final five minutes of the first half to force a penalty in front of the posts - an opportunity that was duly snapped up by fly-half Jonathan Yates.

Despite conceding an early try in the second 40, Glyn settled into the game and ball-carried well in the mid-field and out wide to put their Surrey rivals on the back foot.

At 60 minutes, Glyn had grabbed the lead thanks to scores from Jonathan Gibson and Genair Otoo, though missed conversations kept things very tight at 12-13.

With 20 minutes to play, Glyn retained possession well and ran hard, breaking down the Guildford defence and crossed the whitewash a further three times, including one penalty try served up on the final whistle from winger Phil Garrett, to settle the match at 12-32

New captain Michael Taylor was pleased with the result : 'We started slowly but it was a great response from the lads and testament to the fitness work we've been doing in the off-season.

'It was great to get the try bonus point and we'll carry that confidence into a big fixture on Saturday against Old Cats'

Next week, it’s 1st v 2nd, as Old Glynonians host Caterhamians at Priest Hill. Kick off will be at 3pm.
