'Good day at the office' and hat-trick for Kennedy

Grovians bounced back from last weeks ‘bad day at the office’ to beat Wath 51-19 scoring eight tries in the process.
Grovians got off to a flying start with two tries inside the first 5 minutes. In the first minute a turn over from the kick off resulted in Joe Garforth making good ground to put the backs away and Alex Masterson, fed Jack Hartley who put winger Robin Jones in the corner. Ben Brown put over an excellent touch line conversion. A couple of minutes later a break from the Grovains 22 by Masterson and kick through put Max Kennedy in for a try in the left corner.
Grovians third try came after 14 minutes when a break by Hartley put Jones in for his second. All three tries being score down the left hand side.
Grovians secured a try bonus point on 34 minutes when wing George Butler broke from a scrum just inside the Grovians half and put in number 8 Danny Secker under the posts. Brown converted to give Grovians a 24-0 lead.
Masterson scored under the posts after a good series of forward drives, with Brown converting and then a break by Secker down the right from a scrum put Kennedy in for his second of the day and the Grovains led 36-0. Wath rallied to score a converted try right on half time.
Wath started the half well and ten minutes of pressure led to Wath’s second try.
Grovians replied when Kennedy scored his hat trick try after a fine break by Butler. Brown’s conversion gave Grovians a 43-12 lead.
Harry Evans came on for Grovians at scrum half and was unfortunate to get a yellow card after a series of infringements by the Grovians and prop replacement Ben Weaving followed him shortly afterwards as Wath were awarded a penalty try.
With Grovians down to 13 men for ten minutes Brown elected to kick a penalty and the lead was 46-19. Grovians finished the game (nearly 10 minutes of added time) when Harry Hardy scored after Grovians won a line out 5 metres out.
Grovians really bounced back from last week’s defeat at bottom of the table West Park. The pack held the dominance with the return from Japan of prop Joe Garforth being a major factor. The back row of Hardy, Secker and John Neal secured good clean ball and the backs scored some lovely tries.
Coach, Andy Hinchcliffe commented “Very pleasing performance. Keeping things simple and doing the basics well throughout.
Especially pleased with Sam Dodd and Alex Masterson as both delivered on their personal challenges. A great all round team performance with some good interplay and excellent long range scores. Great to see both wingers coming in field looking for extra work too.
A good day at the office!!”

Team: Kennedy, Butler, Hartley, Phillips, Jones, Masterson, Brown, Secker, Neal, Hardy, Dodd, L. Harrison, Garforth, Worrall, Pearson Replacements: - Evans, Johnstone and Weaving
