Old Leamingtonians Rugby Club is thrilled to announce that Max Bartlett and Hamish McGregor, both from the club's U14s and Mavericks Touch section, have been selected for the England Touch U15s training squad.
Max and Hamish will now compete for a coveted place in the final squad that will represent England at the 2025 Atlantic Cup in Limerick, Ireland, from Thursday, July 31st to Sunday, August 3rd.
This achievement follows a highly successful inaugural season for the OLs Mavericks Junior Touch Rugby section. Alongside Max and Hamish, James McComisky was also selected for the regional West Wildcats U14s team.
Paul Farringdon, of OLRFC Mavericks Touch, commented, "The inaugural season of the OLRFC Mavericks Junior Touch Rugby section has been a resounding success. Weekly Thursday night sessions consistently attracted over 30 young players from April to September, providing them with an excellent opportunity to stay fit and active during the off-season from contact rugby and introducing non-contact players to the club. The selection of Max and Hamish for England Touch is a remarkable achievement and a testament to their dedication and the high-quality coaching within our section. We congratulate them and wish them the very best of luck in their pursuit of a place on the final squad."
Looking ahead to 2025, Touch Rugby at OLs is set to expand further. Weekly junior sessions will continue, and the club will host the National Junior Touch Cup competition and various England Touch events at The Crofts.
