OLRFC Chairman Lucas Wager updates membership on "return to rugby"

Dear OLRFC Members

I hope you and your families are well, I know it has been a difficult time but we are now on the way back to normality with indoor spaces re-opening this week including our newly refurbished clubhouse.

It was a delight to see the newly refurbished clubhouse officially opened on Monday 17th May by Warwickshire RFU president Matt Smith, my sincere thanks to all club members and sponsors involved in this re-development project particularly Mark Edwards, Phil Eales, Chris McCarthy, Craig Ellis and Steve Campton who have all worked tirelessly on this project in their own time.

I’m pleased to report that despite the pandemic our finances are in a very positive position, thanks to everyone for continuing to pay your membership fees and to our treasurer Mike Vallance who has worked tirelessly to secure several covid relief grants from the government, local authority and the RFU which has helped us to supplement lost income but also invest in the club facilities.

Our AGM date has been set as 7th July 2021, it would be great to see you there to share our plans for the forthcoming season. I plan to stand again as Chairman of OLRFC for 2021/22 season, it has been an honour to serve as your Chairman in an unprecedented period for the club and I look forward to a very bright season ahead as we emerge from this pandemic.

It’s been great to see some rugby since the lifting of restrictions, OLRFC Ladies played OLRFC Hornets to kick off the “OLs Cup” in a very well spirited game. Thank you to Andy Fox, Gemma Lewis, Dicky Davies and the entire team for your hard work organising this cup to help develop our #oneclub culture.

The Colts are taking part in a ‘mini league’ and have played three games so far with two great victories over Old Laurents and Claverdon and a narrow defeat to Kenilworth. They are playing Leamington away on Friday 21st May kicking off at 7pm, I’m sure they’d appreciate your support down at Moorfields.

Finally, I would like to say a big thank you to everyone that has supported the club since we reopened the bar on 12th April 2021, it has been a huge success with the outside marquee opening 7 days a week thanks to the hard work of Charlie Sabin, Julie Liddington and the entire team of staff and volunteers.
