Old Leamingtonians RFC Match Report Saturday 11th October 2025.
Old Leamingtonians RFC 1st XV v Ledbury RFC 1st XV
Result:Old Leamingtonians 28 - 33 Ledbury
The Patrons of OLRFC enjoyed a fine Lunch provided by the Fourpenny Shop and attended uniquely by Lady Chairs of both clubs, Gemma Lewis and Ellie Ramsey.
Following an excellent win away at Kidderminster the previous week the Patrons had high expectations of a feast of rugby football to add to that success.
Almost immediately from the Kick off OLs pounced on a loose ball near the half way line and Full Back Will Monks ran 40 yards up the touch line to score under the posts. Joe O’Loghlen converted to give OLs a 7 point lead.
The next 10 minutes of the game were played in midfield until Ledbury’s teamwork got them into the left corner where after some sterling OL defence they eventually bundled over to level the score. The conversion was kicked by Ledbury stand-off Jack Hughes. From the kick off OLs allowed Ledbury to attack again and another forward maul got them over for a second try, again converted by Jack Hughes, making the score 7-14.
It was obvious from this point that the match was going to be hard fought and it was OLs who struck next when the ball was fed through the threes to right winger James Gorvett who ran round the defending wing to score, Joe O’Loghlen again supplying the extra two points making the score 14-14.
Both teams scored their third tries before half time, OLs courtesy of Ben Miller and kicked again by O’Loghlen.
At half time the game was equally balanced at 21 points each. After the changeover Ledbury began to look a little more determined and OLs defence occasionally let them down. A further try under the posts saw Ledbury take a 21 -28 lead.
However OLs were not discouraged and soon come back with their own bonus point try, a second for Full Back Will Monks who won OLs man of the match award. Again the try was converted.
At 28 all OLs still had high hopes of winning the game.
It wasn’t to be. A gallant long range penalty by Joe O’Loghlen just failed to reach and shortly before full time Ledbury scored again to take the honours.
The kick was missed and the contest ended 28 -33.
This was a disappointing ending when OLs had fought so well throughout. Defensive lapses need to be eliminated but at least two league points were gained for the four tries and the 5 point gap.
