Back to Back Warwickshire cup wins for OLs Colts

The Butts Stadium hosted cup holders Old Leamingtonians Colts and Broadstreet Colts . Despite perfect running conditions both teams started nervously with numerous knock ons and spilled passes . OLs were commanding the lineout in the early exchanges and as a result had the territorial advantage . There was an early yellow for Broadstreet following some sealing off after a burst from Lewis Mellor - Penalty to OLs five metres out - OLs chose the scrum , Julian Emery picked up at the back and slipped the ball to Will Davies who was tackled shy of the Broadstreet line , the ball ops out backwards and Ed Gray scoops up and dots over . First score to OLs which is duly converted by Davies , 7-0 . The OLs pack work hard with Tom Morrison and Oliver Craig showing their physicality but Broadstreet also have some power and towards the latter end of the first half come up with a score of their own through Charlie Woodbridge and a conversion from, Luke Jelley . The half ends 7-7 and its game on ...
OLs come out firing on all cylinders at the start of the second half . The forwards drive the ball into Broadstreets 22 and a super move flowing left sees Jake Pettifer throw an outrageous dummy to power over from 20 metres out , Will Davies slots the conversion and OLs go into the lead , 14-7 . However Broadstreet bounce back and only covering tackles from Brennan Lumby and Thomas Wigham prevent Broadstreet from scoring . OLs regroup and gain back field position , the pack produce some more quick ball on the halfway and the ball is spun out to Dominic Woolvine who hares down the wing but is caught 20 metres out but Ed Gray is there as the link who then pops the ball to Ed Righton who breaks a couple of tackles to finish with aplomb , 19-7 to OLs . Oscar Nagle adds his strength to proceedings and is unfortunate to receive a yellow for diving over the ruck . Broadstreet then have a period of possession but the OLs defense holds firm and shortly before the whistle there is a steal from OLs midfield , the ball is recycled , a fine burst from Will Davies gives Lewis Mellor the gap he needs to barrel over to seal the game fro OLs , 24-12 . The remaining minutes are played out with several substitutions but no further scoring . OLs retain the Warks cup in a fantastic win - Braodstreet more than played their part and the game was played in excellent spirits .
