First full contact game of rugby at the Crofts in over a year sees Colts return to winning ways

Old Leams Colts fielded a team that had never competed together in full contact rugby. A side which debuted 12 players into colts shirts for a return (almost) to full rules , came out on top to beat Old Laurentians by 10 tries to 1

On a pitch newly seeded and beautifully watered (thank you Phil and team), it took well over 10 minutes for Old Leams to settle down and shrug off the rusty tackles and unforced mistakes to open the score line, courtesy of some quick thinking by Ollie Carrington . A slew of hard hits and good defensive play, followed by powerful gains in yardage put the score at 29:5 by half time with tries from Paddy Grace, Oli Murden, Archie Walsh & Fred Brooker with Ben Wilson adding 4 more points from the conversions.

The second half saw much of the same with a 2nd for Fred Brooker and a brace also for Seb Dibb. Tries from JJ hastings and Mackenzie Splilmann-Penn dotting down in the last minute. Ben Wilson added another 6 points in conversions to end the match at 60:5.

Despite the scoreline, Old Laurentians never let their heads down and often showed they were dangerous in attack. We wish them success in the future.

Old Leams showed what they were capable of, building on the success of last season which saw the team reach the Quarter finals of The English RFU U18s (club rugby) Cup. The return to rugby at the Crofts can be hailed as a great success, the coaches agree that everything they have strived to achieve in the last 13 months came together in those 70 mins. Well done team!
