A sunny afternoon at the Bob Coward Memorial Ground was the backdrop for the Colts first league game of the season against Barkers Butts.
Despite a 60m breakaway try from the opposition back line in the first 5 minutes, OLs dominated from this point onward. 2 tries from Paddy Grace and 1 from Fraser Carr in the first half along with 2 conversions from Ben Wilson , put the score at 5 -19.
With all 7 subs swapped over to play in the second half, the next 30 minutes saw 4 unanswered OLs scores from James Gorvett, Matt Evans, Fraser Carr and Archie Semple. Just the one Conversion by Archie Semple.
In the dying moments of the game, Barkers once again broke through the OLS defence for the No2 to score in the corner. The conversion missed and the game was done. The game was played in good spirit and thanks to our hosts for sorting the referee, who managed the game very well.
Final Score : 10 - 41
A fantastic first 'league game' outing for the squad. A strong set of forwards dominating the breakdown, winning a fair few rucks, scrums and lineouts against the head. The new backline worked well and settled into some great flowing rugby putting the oppostion under pressure all throughout the game. Congratulations to all who played and to the 3 travelling subs James Gorvett (who swapped for Harry Edge during the warm up), Ethan Hemmingway and Matt Naysmith
