Leeds Modernians, formerly Old Modernians, is an association club based in North West Leeds. The club boasts rugby, football and cricket teams.
Leeds Modernians RUFC 1st XV play competitive rugby in Yorkshire Division 4, with the second team playing in merit leagues. We have a rich tradition in helping students find their feet and build lifelong friendships in Leeds, but we also offer a sanctuary for players who had been out of the game for a while.
We have players of all standards, from county representatives in our first team to newcomers in our seconds. Whatever standard of rugby you want to play, you’ll find it at the Mods.
The club is located on Cookridge Lane in Cookridge, a 10-minute bus ride from Headingley. We have a clubhouse with two bars, changing facilities and a rugby pitch with spectator facilities.
We have two main objectives as a club:
Rugby: We want to challenge in the right way, by playing the right rugby and starting to move up the division.
Social: Many of our players joined us as students, along with the housemates, and have stayed with us ever since. We want to continue establishing a place where people belong.
We aim to achieve these objectives by being:
• A place where people come before rugby.
• A place where development comes before discipline.
• A place where we put time, effort and commitment into the long term future.
• A place where the community is part of the club.
• A place that is professionally and financially well-managed.
We welcome you to Leeds Modernians, whatever your age or ability, and hope you enjoy your time with us.
