The rugby may be over (for this season at least), but our chairman is already thinking about the next campaign

The 19/20 season will be remembered for all the wrong reasons and overall, it was a difficult and disappointing season with no promotion and no 2nd XV.
There were highlights both on and off the field, but they were few and my overriding view is one of a season unfulfilled. The recruitment of a number of new players in the second half of the season brought a new injection to the club and who know where we could have been had the youngsters arrived earlier. I look forward to their greater involvement in the coming seasons.
I am not going to dwell any further on this season other than to say player commitment, commitment, commitment.
A big thank you to all the players that played in the black and red last season. There were times when it can’t have been much fun but without you there wouldn’t be a Leeds Modernians RUFC.
My thanks go to Tom and his hard working coaching team. Whenever I attended training sessions they were varied and interesting and those attending enjoyed themselves.
My thanks also go to the long suffering members of the committee and to the ladies and gents who support and follow the team on a Saturday afternoon.
Those guys watching on Saturday afternoon have a great passion for the Mods and any comments they make is because they care about you the players and the club as a whole. As we all know it was better in our day and it’s a very easy game from the shed.
Looking forward is difficult as we do not know what the future will bring.
Somehow the scrum, lineout, and maul don’t fit into the current social distancing regulations.
Let’s hope that we are able to start the season as scheduled.
I know that Tom and Andy Lowe have been planning for next season and I’m sure that they will have been in touch with all the players. We should plan to start training in July but each player is responsible for their own fitness if this is not possible.
Can I please encourage all of you to contact those players who went AWOL this season and remember to think about the recruitment of new players.
Here’s to a more productive 20/21 season and I look forward to researching more luncheon venues for those away trips for the grumpy old men.
Cheers and UTM
