Ours is a club for all the family

Anyone who has played for the Mods or watches us on a regular basis will know about our Rugby League heritage. Not only do a number of our players play the other code in the summer months, but we also share our ground with league side, Leeds Akkies.

Perhaps most importantly though, is that as a club we believe in the great rugby values that League can teach, which is why our junior section is home to a rugby league side, not union.

The Leeds Underdogs boast kids teams across a range of age groups, and are well known for their success on and off the field. In a part of Leeds that hasn't always been associated with the 13 man code, the Underdogs have really put their name on the map.

The juniors train on a Thursday night at the same time as the seniors, and you can see a real focus from the coaches to teach kids rugby in the right way - making sure that their basic skills are on point and they understand the importance of discipline, teamwork and game management.

For this writer, it's their off the field antics that I've been most impressed by. Very rarely will you see such a well run junior section, where attention is taken to the finest detail and no stone is left unturned. I often chat to Kevin (the chairman) and Diane (the secretary) who are always around and about the club, so pop by on a Thursday evening and have a chat about getting your kids into rugby.

The Mods has always been a family club where generations can come together to play and watch a game we all love. Whether you're getting stuck in or sticking to the safety of a touchline pint, weekends are a time for togetherness - and you'll definitely find that on Cookridge Lane.
