RESERVE TEAM NEWS.....
Before I get into reviewing last weeks game versus Cops I would like to take a moment to thank all committee members for their help and support throughout the season, Michael for a fantastic pitch at Church Road and the many supporters that have come out to watch us during the season. Also a special mention for Mrs Stowe who provides the wonderful buffet after each home game which is greatly appreciated by both sets of players and some cheeky fans who are normally seen hoovering up the left overs on a weekly basis...…..I will mention no names but you know who you are!!
We are really lucky to have such a fantastic bunch behind the scenes that make us the best club in the SIL.
I would also like to thank Macca, Wes, Chappers, Phil and Gav for their support throughout the season to ensure we have been able to field a full squad most weeks.
The full version of my end of season jibba jabba can be enjoyed during my 1 hour slot during the presentation event tonight.
Moving onto the game away at Cops...…....
A interesting game on paper and a chance for us implement some of the tactics we hope to deploy at Portman road on the 13th May.
We started the game rather slowly and the cops front line were creating a few chance early doors and their early pressure soon resulted in them being awarded a penalty following a joint effort by Gary and Ricey (our very own penalty conceding specialist) to give away a penalty, which was well converted to give Cops the lead.
Like normal, this seemed to give the lads the nudge to start playing and working harder which soon rewarded us with a Goal to make it 1-1.
I felt that we dominated the second half but conceded a goal against the run of play to give the lead back to cops (2-1). We appeared to score a goal when Miles shot crossed over the line but the Cops lines man seemed to miss the effort and the ref decided to allow play to continue. However, soon after we did finally get our goal and neither the Cops linesman or GK could prevent Mitch from finishing off a well created move to make it 2-2. Stoney did have a chance to win it at the death but the Cops keeper stood tall, saved the shot and the ref blew his whistle to call time on the match.
We deserved to win the game and get all 3 point but it was only to be a draw on the day but yet another reminder that on our day we are a match for anyone in the league.
I would also like to place on record my congratulation to TRD Reserves on winning the league title, they beat us twice and they fully deserve to lift the trophy. They are a good bunch of lads and are a credit to their club.
This week we play our last League game of the season away at Bramford which will also be the last chance for the players to show why they should start at Portman Road on the 13th May.
