ON Sunday the 24th September 2017, Old Northamptonians Ladies team took on Bridgnorth ladies in a tense battle to the end. A very close draw saw the ONs ladies narrowly miss out on their first win of the league season.

A tough start and a few mistakes from the ONs Ladies saw Bridgnorth taking a penalty kick soon after kick off, successfully completed to give the away team 0-3 lead.
ONs then came back strong, attacking well getting the ball through the hands, but an unfortunate knock on saw it turned over. Once possession was gained back handling was seen to be successful again, possession being kept through the help of Hena Kaur rucking over the ball. Alice Morgan and Laura Wychgel showed some great runs to make it further into the oppositions half, following by a great run from Kornelija Adomaityte from a quick tap and go set up by Sophie Slope. Further powerful runs were seen by the forward pack taking the ball into contact and Holly Allen, knocking the opposition out of her path.
Various knock ons and infringements saw multiple scrums and penalty kicks, both quick tap and goes and kick to touch from both sides. These were defended and attacked from well from ONs, seeing great defensive tackles put in by Sophie Slope, strong runs from Hena Kaur, Gina Cottle and Ellie Bradford.
With the ball safely back in ONs hands, passes were made along the back line to finally reach Cheryl Smith who ran strong over the try line to score the first try of the game.
An unsuccessful conversion saw the score stand at 5-3 to ONs.
Further strong runs proceeded from kick off with Christine Kiarie making it past multiple Bridgnorth players to gain ground putting ONs close to the try line once again. A strong offload game allowed the ball to get into the capable hands of Holly Allen who fought her way over the line to make the score 10-3 to ONs. No conversion.
Further strong play and support play from Ellie Bradford, Lauren Stewart and Cheryl Smith put ONs in a good place as the half time whistle blew.
As the second half commenced, the ball went back and forth between the two teams due to various knock ons and skewered throws in the line outs. Finally the ball made its way back to Bridgnorth who used quick hands to get it out to their wing who ran confidently to score Bridgnorth's first try of the match, followed by a successful conversion. The score now at 10-10.

Despite strong plays from both sides, powerful rucks, battling scrums, quick hands and great runs, the score didn't manage to change in either team's favour and the game ended in a draw.

A great improvement from the previous game for the ONs, now getting back into the swing of things and building up strengths as a team.

Well done to both sides for a hard fought game.

Well done to forward of the match Tazia Goodwin, who moved from the backs to flanker for the first time in this game and managed very well, and back of the match Hena Kaur.
