Old Streetonians Vets team retain the Middlesex Vets Cup for the second year

Street travelled to Chiswick on Saturday to play Ealing Evergreens in the final of the Middlesex Vets Cup. Ealing who were recent winners of their Merit Table league soon found themselves under pressure in their twenty two resulting in a penalty for not rolling away which was duly converted by Captain Nick Barham; it wasn't long before he got a second opportunity to slot a further three points to give his team a 6-0 lead. Street then found themselves back in their own twenty two and Ealing capitalised on a fumbled ball to go over the line 6-7. But Street quickly rallied with a great passage of play to put winger Nick Obileye in out wide before avoiding 2 defenders to touch down under the posts. 13-7 at the break.
Street started the second half with the same intensity and Ealing unable to compete with the pace soon infringed again to give the Onions another 3 points 16-7. Street stretched the lead after further infringement from Ealing 19-7 and then with less than 10 minutes left on the clock Postie took an enforced break.
It was at this point after a break from the Ealing backline that Street conceded a penalty for tackling the player without the ball which the third official deemed to be worthy of a penalty try. Given the number of scrums from handling errors throughout the game the try may not have been quite so certain but Street managed to hold out for the last minutes to finish the match victorious 19-14
Well done to the 19 players who took to the field on the day and to all the others who played along the way to get us there!
