After a well-fought loss to USP a win was just what the doctor ordered.

Old Tiffinians vs Trojans fell upon the club's annual Ladies Day, so as the game kicked off, with the backing of the largest female contingent Grists has perhaps ever seen, what could go wrong? Spectators shared nervous glances as the Trojans had clearly brought a strong pack with them. A line-out in the Tiffs half was driven all the way under the sticks, and it looked as if another loss might be on the cards.

Luckily for the Tiffs the 18-year olds had something to say about this. Gav cut a brilliant line in the Trojans 22 to go in, after a brilliant restart from Blackers had pinned them back and forced a knock-on under immense Tiffs pressure. Gav had once again brought his kicking boots with him, and slotted the conversion, making it 7 apiece.

The Trojans clearly weren’t happy about letting points slip and after a few missed tackles, and a support line from the Trojans full back, he was in to make it 7-12 to the visitors.

Tiffs were starting to hit their stride and after a naughty wraparound by Taylor they were back in the Trojans 22, applying pressure once again thanks to some massive carries from the big boys, Carvill and Lawrence. They were rewarded with the first thing on Gav’s Christmas wish list every year, a penalty right in front of the posts. This closed the gap on the visitors to 10-12 at half time.

The second half kicked off and the Tiffs looked like they were starting to enjoy their rugby. A nasty step from Gav opened up some space down the right wing, and after hearing the screams from his left, put a lovely grubber back inside for Jake to gather and score. Gav slotted the 2 making it 17-12 to the Tiffs.

Perhaps it was because he wanted to make up for being late, maybe he just wanted to impress the ladies on the special occasion, but Jake was ready to go again right from the restart, but in a game where Kiran was playing on the wing, he’d have to do something impressive for it to be remembered.

A wonderful take from the ever-present Mike OC was shipped on to Taylor who put in a lofted kick which he’ll claim he meant to stay in, but Jake was on his bike ready to get under it. After a fabulous take he shrugged off the winger and started to get away. The opposition fly-half raced up to make a cover tackle, but should’ve left to get changed straight away after the grubber slid between his legs. Jake regathered the kick to slide over in the corner scoring possibly one of the greatest tries of his life. Gav yet again had no problem with this touchline kick and slotted it with ease making it 24-12 to Tiffs. It looked like it could be three in quick succession after another break from Ben after the restart but after about 15 dummies he was tackled, and the Trojans managed not to concede.

The Trojans managed to sneak one back, but failed to convert again, making it 24-17, and with five minutes to go deep in the Tiffs half they were looking for a score to bring them level. But the Tiffs were tired of losing and gave everything they had with some massive tackles and a great press in D. Josh Graham Jr had been looking for turnovers all game with limited success (from the ref’s whistle anyway) but he pounced on a ball after a great chop tackle and won a penalty. Gav managed to get it into touch after a couple of ropey kicks previously and the Tiffs saw out the game from there.

A great win at home for Old Tiffinians U19s to get them back on track, looking forward to an away win next against Andover to reinstate themselves in the league.

MotM- Ben Lawrence: For some brilliant picks off the back of the scrum and wonderful carries all game.

DotD - Jake: For turning up half an hour before kick-off and for having ‘stupid piercings’.
