Maidstone 6's 6 -2 Old Williamsonians 5's

First game back for OW's 5s to blow off the cobwebs and festive cheer! The day got off to a bad start as our game was severely delayed due to a nasty looking injury in the game before. However, once the game got started OW's pressured consistently with the 13 year old debutant Alexander finding good space and providing some telling passes to his more experienced team mates. Despite all the pressure, Maidstone scored with a lone breakaway goal, so we went in 1-0 down at half-time. The second half was dominated by the far more experienced Maidstone, who made their enhanced quality count with 5 more goals. Young Yousif battled well in goal and pulled off some good saves, but a few errors let Maidstone in, to quickly build a big lead. OW's rallied and pulled 2 goals back of their own, with Dann and Harding combining after a botched short corner. Then it was the turn of Harvey, who having a splendid strike previously saved by the keeper, picked up a square ball from O'Shea jnr to slide the ball past the keeper for his 8th of the season. But any fightback was soon snuffed out with a couple more goals from Maidstone. The game ended on a bizarre and sour note when the floodlights were turned off a few minutes from the end. Despite some grumbling from Routledge, this probably aided our goal difference rather than hindering it. So the game ended with OW's feeling proud of their efforts against a far superior team.
