Match report

When looking at the result you could be mistaken into thinking this was a one sided event, the first half was far from that. In the first 5 minutes Cressex started positively and had a series of corners that were well defended. Old Windsor then came into it and started to get into the game and there was some half chances for Lewis, Sean and Rory. Both teams looked lively and with Mitch making his debut he was required to deal with some corners which he did ably. As the game went on the back four looked stronger and was well marshalled by Dale. In the 32 minute the opening goal went to Old Windsor, Nick won the ball in middle of the park and found Loz who in turn played a sublime long pass to Lewis who coolly lobbed the keeper. For the next 5 minutes Old Windsor turned the key, with Lucas having his effort cleared off the line and Jake has a goal dubiously ruled out for off side. The second goal came on 37 minutes when Joseph collects the ball on the edge of the area, makes room for a shot and wrong foots the keeper. Once again Cressex battles back and applies some pressure, resulting in a good save from Mitch.

2-0 at half time and although the score line was good Russ thought we could play better and wow how the players reacted. Within two minutes of the restart Lucas played a great ball through to Jake who calmly finished. On 51 minutes some good play be Lex and Jake down the left saw the ball fall to Lewis who shot from 20 yards, the keeper palmed the ball away only for the defender to head past the keeper. The quality continued and the best move of the match involving Dale, Lex, Rory and Lucas ended up with Jake who unfortunately shot over the bar. Russ then made some changes and that disrupted the pattern of play. On 70 minutes the 5th goal was scored by Joseph after a corner was attacked by Nick, this fell to Dale who passed to Joseph and he tapped in. Probably the best goal of the match came on 72 minutes Callum started the move with a one two with Lewis, who then found Brad on the right, he then got to the by line and cut the ball back for Lewis to finish we. As with the whole game Cressex continued to try and play football and got their rewards with a well taken goal on 75 minutes. The final goal of the game came on 85 minutes Joseph’s long ball over the top was fought for by Callum, he won the ball and puts a cross in for Jake to back flick in. That was the end of the scoring and a satisfactory score line of 7-1.

After the game Russ praised all the players and stated that this was just the start for the season ahead. Man of the match was a tough decision but in the end Dale was given this week’s honour for his commanding display at the back and to show it’s not always goal scorers who get all the glory.
