Match report

Old Windsor win to make it 4 in a row

Old Windsor faced another tough test away against Slough Heating Laurencians Reserves. A few changes to the last game with Rory, Harry and Scouse replacing Nick, Luke and Dale. The focus this week was to ensure we continued to work hard and match what we knew would be a tough physical Slough outfit.

We started the brighter of the two teams playing some good football and getting the ball wide with Brad and Lewis getting in some good positions but ultimately despite winning a succession of corners we were unable to force an opener.

The midfield battle was fierce with Rory, Lucas and Joe battling hard and winning the midfield battle giving us a platform to gain a foothold in the game.

Midway through the first half we made our breakthrough with Harry opening the scoring on his full debut. Old Windsor continued to press and have the better of the game where more chances came and went.

Not long after Old Windsor were two goals to the good when a high ball in from Walts got the slightest of touches whilst putting the keeper under pressure to make it two nil.

The focus now was to not give a goal away as quickly as we did in our previous game against Singh Sabha. A few nervy moments in defence almost saw us concede a goal from a corner that was cleared off the line.

3 mins before half time Slough found a way back into the game after the referee gave a penalty. Joe was convinced the Slough player had grabbed his arm but the ref was having non of it. The penalty was tucked away and frustratingly we couldn’t keep our two goal advantage.

The Half time talk was based on ensuring we weathered the early storm Slough would inevitably throw at us and trying to thread some balls through down the sides of the centre backs.

The storm indeed came, with Slough taking a foothold in the game and forcing a numbers of corners, that at times we struggled to clear. Danny made a couple of great saves to keep us in the lead.

Harry put us 3-1 up to complete the hat trick and make the game safe.

As the game went on and Slough pushed more men forwards to get an equaliser the game became stretched. Brad, Lewis and Harry had more chances to score and add some gloss on the scoreline and probably felt they should have done better when presented with some great opportunities to do so!!

The game finished 3-1 where in the past we’ve not had the best of luck in terms of results. Again we’ve had to show resilience and put in a shift to come away with the win.

Harry was MOM with his Hat trick on his full debut.

A great start to the season continues with us at present being the only unbeaten team in the league. We must continue to work hard and the results will continue to come!!

Onto next week with another home fixture against Langley A looking to continue our good start to the season up the O’s!!!
