“The only way is…OMT”
After an exciting pre season fitness tour led by Rushil, OMT’s very own Mr Motivator, it was fantastic to see that the most of the lads had no carbs before marbs, have a good catch up and of course see the right sort that is Shil for the first game of the season.
Our opponents – Old Chigwellians II – were familiar foes and the talk of essex, although at the end of the day OMT were in good spirits and ready to go.
Listen! called our Capitano Kasler, to give the first pre match pep talk of the season, recognising not everyone had partaken in the weekly HIIT sessions Jason rightly asked the boys to relax, enjoy the game and lets see what happens
Don’t get me wrong with Ferg about to start his second game of the day some weren’t sure he would make a full 90 minutes but he didn’t disappoint starting assured as CB alongside a back four of Walters, Sean and Paul. The whole OMT team started well, finding their feet and working it through the midfield three of Sanker, Guffick and Shil to make chances early in the game. Sure enough OMT were rewarded for their efforts with TK playing a beautiful ball through the middle to the feet of Arun who held his composure to slot it past the keeper. 1-0 OMT
Chigwellians responded strongly, playing several balls over the top trying to turn OMTs defence. They nearly drew level with an in-swinging corner that was cleared off the line but in response OMT kept pushing the ball up to their front three and were soon rewarded once more with Paul playing a defence splitting through ball to Arun who turned a player to slot it past the Chigwellians keeper for a second. 2-0 OMT
With goal number two in the belt we all knew that Arun was in fact Essex’s top boy, the opposition unable to contain him throughout the game. Chigwellians responded with more pressure, continuing to test the defence down the wings and winning some corners. All were kept out but an unfortunate bouncer from long range caught OMT off guard with Chigwellians clawing back a lucky goal. 2-1 OMT, all to play for.
Resident DJ and fellow OMT veteran Jacko joined proceedings with ten minutes to go of the first half, adding more strength to the OMT in midfield.
Following a rousing half time team talk OMT came out for the second half raring to go, working hard to close down the opposition and playing the ball forward through the midfield three and out to the wings to make chances. OMT deserved a third but no-one expected it from an Owen goal kick / assist and a reem chip over the keeper from Sanker. Well jel
What followed was a great example of OMT teamwork with the team giving away some minor fouls in order to break down play and stifle any creativity from Chigwellians. The final ten minutes involved a minor altercation between Walters and one of the opposition, Walters said I’ve got enough agg, walking away to set himself up for the corner, of which OMT to cleared with ease, one of many of the day.
A composed ten minutes followed, although the first game of the season was now clearly taking its toll after the Summer. With the final whistle OMT Social and undemocratically elected Covid 19 rep, Sanker recommended we all Get a table in the Clubhouse for post match cooldown and early discussions on Marbs 2021
