Almighty comeback gives OPM win

OPM looked to be continuing their disappointing season when they found themselves 3-0 down inside 15 minutes. Ashmoor started with their usual speed and accuracy, catching the home side off guard for the opening quarter of an hour. A brilliant individual goal gave Ashmoor the lead which was swiftly followed by two more goals to suggest a long afternoon was ahead.

However, with so much time still to go, OPM finally switched on. Simple, accurate passing and some good periods of possession gave Jordan Round the first goal. With the bit between their teeth, OPM started to play their best hockey this season, which culminated with a stunning individual goal from player of the match Luke Cook. Comeback on!

The second half started as brightly as it ended for OPM, with the home side pressuring Ashmoor at the 16. When a short corner was stopped on the line by a defender’s leg, Carl Johnson stepped up to dispatch the resulting penalty stroke. 3-3.

It this point the game evened out again and both sides had opportunities to take the lead. However, Josh Budgen, who had been terrorising the Ashmoor goal all afternoon, finally got his reward to make it 4-3 with 5 minutes left.

Ashmoor creates chances but ultimately OPM held on and an incredible comeback was well deserved for the 12 players who left everything on the pitch.
