Division One

It proved to be a significant weekend for both ends of the Division One table. At the top Orington produced a shock by inflicting a 2-1 defeat on high-flying hosts Crowborough Athletic. Despite having two shots cleared off the line in the first-half, Athletic found the afternoon quite uncomfortable, although all the relevant action occurred in the final twenty minutes. Steve Mcgowan opened the scoring for Orington in the seventieth minute and Jon Rich-Spice then added a second soon after. Thomas Penfold pulled one back for Athletic with just six minutes remaining, but it was not to be enough.

At the other end of the table, Mountfield United went a long way to preserving their Division One status by defeating relegation threatened Icklesham Casuals 1-0. The only goal of the game was joyfully rammed home by Steve Fortsch ten minutes into the second-half.

The match between Sandhurst and Langney Wanderers was postponed as Wanderers could not raise a side.

Division Six

The local derby between Parkfield and Hampden Park United went the way of the home side, Parkfield winning 3-0. The hosts were 2-0 ahead at the break through Steven Brooks and Paul Scothern. Branislav Flak netted their third in the second half. It looks as though the two eagerly awaited League clashes between Parkfield and Catsfield might now decide the destiny of this year’s title.

Third-placed Sedlescombe Rangers had a relatively comfortable afternoon at home to FC Westridge, winning the match 2-0. The score-line would have been even more convincing but for an outstanding display from Westridge goalkeeper Craig Morton. Chris Ford and Ben Thorpe struck the Rangers goals.

It was certainly a game of two halves between Hawkhurst United and Sandhurst, United eventually winning the match 4-3. The home side were totally dominant before the break and sailed into a 4-0 lead with goals from Tom Sayer (2), Conrad Woodgate and Jamie Young. Donning the carpet slippers and dressing gowns was a mistake though as Sandhurst came out fighting after the interval. Three times the ball rifled into the Hawkhurst net through Will Mantle, Matt Adams and Steve Homewood; but they could just not find that elusive fourth to make the comeback complete.

JC Tackleway continue their battle at the wrong end of the table after achieving a creditable 1-1 draw away to Battle Baptists. It was Tom Saunders who gave Baptists a first-half lead, before Terry Taylor returned the compliment for Tackleway with twenty minutes left on the clock.

There was another draw at Orington, this time 2-2, as they hosted Robertsbridge United at Bexhill Road. Whilst both mid-table sides will be satisfied with a draw, United will be slightly happier having come back from 2-0 down. Justin Hardy and Chris Aspinall both registered to give United a point after Scott Quested and Nick Sheppard had given Orington a 2-0 lead.
