After weeks of not playing due to weather related cancellations, the Ossett women were ready for a good day out. Travelling to Ripon in good numbers, there was a buzz about finally getting a game on!
Ripon are a wonderful opposition, always friendly and up for a laugh, but make us work hard on the pitch too.
Early on saw Ossett take the lead with a try under the sticks from scrum half Alice which was promptly converted by Izzie. Only ten minutes later, Izzie went down for her own try making the score 12-0 to Ossett. Ossett let a Ripon try in ten minutes later following a succession of penalties. We let Ripon in again for an unconverted try. At 12-10 it was all still to play for. We answered just before half time with a cracker of a try from Amee bringing us to 17-10 before the break time whistle went.
Half time saw the Ossett women regroup, discuss strategy and formulate a plan for the remainder of the game. Unfortunately for us, Ripon capitalised early using the pace in their backs and scored but it was unconverted thanks to a beautiful charge down from the Ossett team, a move that they had become particularly fond of. We replied quickly with Sarah smashing over the whitewash followed shortly after by another from Hannah after a great crash ball. Ripon scored once more to bring the game to 27-20 and nerves were fraught holding them out for 14 minutes before that final whistle went.
Final score 27-20 to Ossett.
Thank you Ripon for your exceptional hospitality as always. We wish you the best for the rest of your season.
