Hard fought victory at Wath

With Ossett’s league match away at Rowntrees being ‘postponed’ Ossett travelled to Wath upon Dearne to be entertained by Wath 2nd XV.
In a hard fought game Ossett came out on top scoring four tries to two.
Ossett dominated the opening exchanges and had the better of the set scrums for the opening ten minutes. Wath made a break on the blind side through their backs but a great covering tackle from Ross Roebuck prevented a try.
Wath took the lead on 15 minutes when their scrum half took a quick tap penalty on the edge of the 22 and ran in un-opposed. There may have been a question whether he actually played the ball. The try was converted to give Wath a 7-0 lead.
On 25 minutes Ossett got back into the game when Nase Alofi scored. Ossett went for a push over try five metres our but were just held up but number eight Alofi picked up to score. Jack Drury converted from the right hand touch line.
Just on half time good work again by the forwards gave Ossett ball and the it was quickly moved along the line for left winger Mark Fisher to dive in at the corner. Again Drury converted from the touch line to give Ossett a half time lead of 14-7.
A good hard fought first half with the Ossett forwards giving as good as they got.
Ten minutes into the second half Ossett stretched their lead. A run down the right saw Roebuck tackled but he managed to off load to Drury who scored and again converted the try.
Wath scored an interception try to narrow the score to 21-14 but with ten minutes left Alofi burst through the Wath defence to score his second of the afternoon. Drury converted to give Ossett a 28-14 victory.
The forwards gave a really good account of themselves against as strong Wath pack.
