Seven try Ossett

Ossett got their League action off to a flying start with a seven try victory over Hessle.
On a very hot day and a hard bouncy pitch Ossett wore down the very big Hessle pack and ran riot in the last quarter of an hour.
After five minutes Nathan Lawrence scored the opening try going over after a couple of drives from the forwards.
For twenty minutes the game ebbed and flowed with Hessle slightly on top, Nase Alofi was sin binned for a high tackle but during his ten minutes absence Ossett struck twice.
Ossett stole the ball on their own line and Jack Drury’s clearance kick was chased by Nathan Lawrence, John Neal and Adam Race. They stole the ball from the Hessle full-back and put Jack Drury away to score in the right hand corner. Drury converted his own try to make it 12-0.
Three minutes later Danny Buckley made a break to set up Jonathan Banks who galloped home under the posts, Drury again converting.
As Alofi returned to the pitch Luke Newsome replaced him in the sin bin for another high tackle.
The 19-0 lead at half time flattered Ossett with the Hessle pack drawing them into a forward battle. The few occasions that the Ossett backs had been set free they looked threatening.
Hessle struck back early in the second half scoring a try after Ossett had given away tow penalties.
Hessle threatened for the next twenty minutes with Ossett having little ball but Danny Buckley’s nice chip sent Lawrence racing away to score under the posts and secure the try bonus point, Drury converted to give Ossett a 26-5 lead.
Soon afterwards a Hessle player was yellow carded for another high tackle.
In the last quarter with the Hessle players wilting in the heat Ossett ran in three more tries. Sean Abson went under the posts from a penalty won by the Ossett pack at a scrum. A lovely interchange of passes put Jack Drury under the posts and he converted.
A break by Kendo saw Louis Dunbavin put John Neal away but the try was ‘butchered’ as he knocked on in the process of touching down.
In the last minute Jack Drury’s Crossfield run put Nathan Lawrence in for his hat-trick – No jug avoidance this week!
A very positive opening to the league season; it’s only game one but Ossett sit top of the league. The whole pack played well, fronting up to a big Hessle pack and the backs looked really slick when given room to run. Drury scored 20 points and Lawrence now has six tries in three games.
