Ossett's return to Yorkshire Three ended in a last-minute defeat away at local rivals Corinthians although there were a lot of positives to be taken especially in the performances in players making their debut on their return to the club.
Ossett started the stronger and after some good interplay between backs and forwards second-row John Hall crossed for Ossett to lead 5-0. With Ossett controlling the scrums with new boy Tom Quinn and Joe Rogers leading the way and Jack Peat dominating the line outs Ossett were unlucky not to add to their lead.
Corinthians came back into the game with a penalty and added a try just before half-time to lead 8-5.
The second half saw Ossett continue to dominate with ball in hand, Ben Kendall proving to be a handful every time he ran at Leeds and with young wingers Will Forrest and Ollie Lightfoot also showing well it was no surprise after a couple of missed opportunities to see Tom Rogers break away to score a superb solo try, Jack Drury added the extras. Leeds were not done though and with their fly-half moving Ossett around the field with his tactical kicking and Ossett down to 14 with Luke Newsome in the bin Ossett found themselves pinned in their own twenty-five and heartbreak occurred when Leeds scored in the last minute, a try that was converted to make the final score 15-12, Ossett gaining a losing bonus point.
Meanwhile, Ossett's seconds scored a bonus-point win against York Thirds in their first league game of the season. They proved too strong for their opponents with Sam Peel crossing for four tries they eventually triumphed 55-0.
Ossett ladies were also in action and lost 27-49 in an entertaining game against Grimsby ladies. Katie Wilson took the WOM award for Ossett ladies.
