Ossett win CYCL Second Team Premiership
Fenwick’s finest take Second Team Premiership crown with a game to spare in Ossett’s first Central Yorkshire Cricket league title for 30 years.
Ossett 2nd XI rounded off a superb season under the intuitive captaincy of long time West Yorkshire club cricket servant Richard Fenwick to win the CYCL Second Team Premier league with a victory at Batley. A fitting achievement for Dick, who, while he will continue playing, intends to step down from the captaincy next season.
In a relatively low scoring match, Ossett’s bowlers dismantled first-in Batley 2nds’ batting line up with thrifty precision, producing some excellent bowling figures in the process. Nohman Hussain taking 4 for 25 off 15 overs, 6 of which were maidens; Younis Hussain 3 for 29 off 13 overs with 6 maidens and Dale Winterbottom a remarkable 2 for 3 off 5 overs, 2 of which were maidens.
Batley ended up on 88 all out in 36.4 overs, with only Uzair Majid batting number 4 for 14 and Mohd Tarik Patel on 19 at no 7 putting up any real resistance.
While Ossett did not have it all their own way, good knocks from opener David Sadler finally falling LBW for 25 and Solly Abbas, not out 31, saw the team across the line at 90 for 7 in 24.5 overs.
