John was a former player at Otley playing most of his rugby in the 60s and 70's at all levels, including the first team. He was a flexible player, team members recall him as a prop and stand-off, but he is mainly remembered as a scrum half - his signature move being the bouncing bomb John's ball to the fly-half bouncing before it reached the number 10.
He was a member of a running club based at the Bay Horse called the Bay Horse Harriers, we are not sure of the proportion of running to drinking!
John grew up in Otley, the son of Harry Mills who was also an Otley player who also played for the county.
John was well known as a grocer on Market Street at the "The Runner Bean". John was a quiet man who is known by many people around Otley and our club. John was always supportive of his friends and loved his rugby.
Our thoughts are with all John's family and friends.
