Peter played cricket for Manningham Mills CC and Harrogate CC, but he was better known for his rugby union exploits. He played on the wing for both Ripon RUFC and Harrogate RUFC, and twenty nine times for England in the 1970s scoring six tries, as well as playing for the British and Irish Lions on the 1977 British Lions tour to New Zealand. He continued to play for Ripon into his early forties. He played in England's 23-6 victory over Australia at Twickenham in January 1976.
Peter also was on the bench for the North of England team when they played the All Blacks on the 17th November 1979 at Cross Green. Peter joined us and many of his former team mates for our 40th Anniversary celebration on the 15th November 2019 at Cross Green.
Peter has been a regular at our pre-match lunches for many years joining Paul H Whatmuff and the other Ripon lads to support Otley, I guess his loyalties may have been divided when we have played Harrogate.
Peter was a lovely man, a true gentleman and a very, very talented sportsman.
Our thoughts go to his family and friends.
