After just 27 seconds flanker Daniel Temm spilled the kick-off, Bromsgrove centre Charles Jones sliced through Otley’s line of defence to score.

Fly halves Ben Cooper and Bromsgrove skipper Jonathan Critchlow then shared penalties, Cooper’s second putting Otley back to within two points at 8-6 after 25 minutes.

Try as they might Otley couldn’t capitalise on the first of three yellow cards for the visitors when their right winger Sam Bastock was yellowed for obstructing Otley’s left winger Michael Coady, and the subsequent penalty was missed. A second penalty gave Bromsgrove an 11-6 lead at half-time.

Otley prop Toby Williams running over Bromsgrove centre Tom Millen early in the second half seemed to spark up Otley, and Cooper’s third penalty hauled them back to 11-9. Jonathan Matthews ran the from near the half way line believing he had scored in the 54th minute, but he had put a foot in touch. Tom O’Donnell, playing his first game of the season, was brought on shortly afterwards.

Otley’s luck was not running with them as a knock-on by full back Chris Gemmell straight afterwards gave Bromsgrove a chance to extend their lead, as they pulled Otley’s defence across the park before Aaron Higgins went over in the corner in the 57th minute, Chritchow converting.

In a bid to shake things up, Otley continued to make changes bringing on Will Magie (for Chris Gemmell) in the 58h minute, followed by Kirk Arundale and Henry Walker in the 67th (for Stephen Depledge and Luke Cole).

In the 72nd minute it started, with Otley pulling Bromsgrove from one side of the field to the other with debutant Magie going over. Otley then took a one point lead after Daniel Temm went over in the 76th minute, with captain Adam Blades scoring his second of the season in the last minute of the game.
