Following report kindly supplied by Dinbych RFC.

Dinbych progressed to the Second Round of the WRU Shield competition with a narrow victory over Rhos after trailing at half time against the visitors who competed strongly in all aspects of play.

The visitors dominated the first quarter of an hour of play with Dinbych only able to hold out with some last ditch tackling in a scrambling defensive display. The visitors eventually took the lead in the 17th minute when flanker Alan Richards forced his way over for a try in the corner converted by his outside half brother Dewi with an excellent kick from the touchline.

This galvanised Dinbych into action and they replied three minutes later with an attack from a scrum on the Rhos 22 when outside half Robyn Cartwright chipped over the Rhos try line for centre Toby MacAlpine to beat the defenders to touch down for an unconverted try. Rhos then increased their lead in first half injury time when Dewi Richards went over for an unconverted try after a quickly taken tap penalty 15 metres out.

Trailing by 12 points to 5 at the interval Dinbych drew level midway through the second half when replacement back Tom Seddon launched an attack from near halfway with a pass to left wing Gwern Williams Pierce who cut inside on an elusive run before putting Toby MacAlpine over for his second try under the posts leaving an easy conversion for Robyn Cartwright.

The hosts then took the lead with a solo try by replacement scrum half Rowan Hughes who took a tap penalty near half way and then beat a number of defenders in an elusive run to cross wide out for an excellent try converted with an equally good kick by Robyn Cartwright.

Tom Seddon added a fourth Dinbych try which he also converted ten minutes from time running in from 40 metres after ripping the ball in a tackle from a Rhos attacker. The visitors got a final consolation try in the closing minutes when No 8 Jack Morris went over after a period of intense pressure near the Dinbych line with Dewi Richards adding the conversion points.
