Pwllheli used the wind to great effect in the 1st half to ensure they dominated territory. They proved clinical in the red zone as the MOM , Joseph Hughes used his pace and power off rucks and scrums to grab his hat trick of tries in the first half hour. It was ironic that watching dad, Dafydd M Hughes had been such a crowd favourite at Cae Smyrna during Cefni`s 2 successful campaigns in the National League 3West.

However Cefni had their own stars on the day as well, and one of them, Emyr Jones, almost bagged his own hat trick of tries. Unfortunately, when he crashed over for the 2nd time , mid 2nd half with the score at 7-24, the referee needed the TMO`s help!!

Cefni spent most of the 1st quarter in their own half, but captain Tom Owen, who was awesome throughout as he carried through the heavy traffic, and fellow back rower Declan Griffiths made big dents in the Pwll defence. Their constant surges finally got Cefni into the Pwll 22, and a period of concerted pressure allowed Emyr Jones the chance to crash over at the posts. Rhys Hughes` extras made it 7-24 at the break. However, Rhys the boot Hughes left the field injured before the break and his long raking punts were missed in the 2nd half.

Cefni soon got back into the Pwll 22, courtesy of a Tom Owen 40 metre break. The line out worked well but the move broke down with a knock on. From the ensuing scrum, Joseph Hughes, yes him again, set off on a 40 metre sprint towards half way. Cefni turned over the ball and soon centre Aron Parry was off on a 40 metre break into the Pwll 22. The move got within 5 metres, but again Cefni lacked the clinical edge to grab the vital try. However, Pwll had a man carded and Cefni were pounding the line, and from an advancing scrum the ball was moved to Emyr Jones in the centre, and we had that disallowed try. Tensions were high and we had a mini brawl which led to a yellow card for each team.

It was all Cefni at this stage, and soon winger Aled Thomas went on a mazy run deep into the Pwll 22. He was stopped short, but was able to offload to Emyr Jones who crashed over for the try and 12-24. If that 2nd try had come sooner we would have had a closer finish. Cefni runners were still finding holes in the Pwll defence, and sub Paddy Maguire was the next to sprint through on a 50 metre surge up to the Pwll 22, but the attack fizzled out and Pwll were able to run from deep, interpass dexterously and their 4th try was scored by centre Ieuan “Jones'.
