Nondies beat local rivals in rain affected game

The Nondies 1st team secured 25 important points with a fantastic victory against East Oxford on Saturday.

Skipper, Chris Day, lost the toss and Nondies were inserted into bat.

On a tough batting day, with a green surface, cloud cover and intermittent specs of rain, Nondies battled to 138 all out. This included an exceptional knock from Pablo Mukherjee who batted through for his 50 not out.

The rain came at tea and looked persistent but with some good umpiring and use of the 'super sopper', the teams were able to get back out with East Oxford now having 31 overs to chase the runs.

However, in the challenging batting conditions, it was tough especially against the new ball attack of Deebo Saleem and Arfan Ahmed who bowled great spells and took wickets at regular intervals with some unplayable deliveries. Deebo taking 5 wickets again for only 23 runs off his 10 overs.

East Oxford decided to bat out for a draw once they were 8 down but some good back up bowling from Liam Gregor secured the final 2 wickets, the last one being taken with just 7 balls remaining.

Scorecard here.

The win sees Nondies move to 7th in the table having won 4 of their previous 6 games with just one defeat (1 draw).

They move onto Horley next week in another big game.
